4 Qul: The Four Quls
Al-Kafirun, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas: the four surahs that begin with “Say”
- 4 surahs
- 21 Ayahs
The 4 Quls are the four short surahs near the end of the Quran that begin with the word Qul, "Say": Al-Kafirun (109), Al-Ikhlas (112), Al-Falaq (113) and An-Nas (114). Together they have 21 ayahs, and many Muslims learn them by heart as children.
Al-Kafirun and Al-Ikhlas declare that Allah alone is worshipped and that He is One; Al-Falaq and An-Nas seek refuge in Him from every evil. The Prophet ﷺ recited Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas every night before sleeping, and taught Companions to recite them in the morning and evening and to recite Al-Kafirun before sleep, as the hadith below describe.
